Quick Install:
- Unzip the software to a location on your hard drive & upload to your
web server
- Within the config folder, open config.asp & at line number 24, edit
with your connection string, save and upload config.asp
- Log into the admin like ... www.yourWebsite.com/dealeradmin & click
the "Main Configuration" link and edit the first 2 text fileds with
your information and click update
You're done ... Too easy! Now click at the top of your admin page, the link
that says "View Website".
If you receive "operation must use an updateable
query", just set the permissions on your database folder and
dealerimages folder and you are ready to go!
If you are unsure of the path to your database, you can either ask your web
host or upload the file "path.asp" to your ROOT folder. Browse to
your website like this ... www.yoursitename/path.asp - Copy the path shown and
paste it in your config.asp page and then add the rest of your path like this:
Example: If the path shown is C:\domain\ezauto
then you would add like this:
C:\domain\ezauto\_private\dealer30.mdb
1. Introduction
eDealerDesign Dealership Website Software is designed to run on a Windows
web server and is designed to work with an MS Access or SQL Server database.
2. Installation and Setup
Unzip the software
Unzip the software to a folder on your computer's hard drive.
Upload files to your web server
Upload, copy (FTP) the entire EZAuto folder and all files contained.
Modify Configuration File
Open config.asp. which is located in the /Config folder and edit
with your information. Click
here to see our tutorial on how to set the path to your database.
config.asp
- connString - The Database Connection String is used to connect the
software to the database so that you can read and update information in it.
There are some examples of connection strings inside the config.asp file,
just replace the appropriate information.
If you are not sure what all this is about, contact us or your web hosting
company and tell them where your database is located. They should then be
able to tell you what your database connection string should look like.
- adminUser and AdminPass - This is the user ID and password
you use to logon to your Administration area. If you only want to test the
software, you can leave these settings at their default values for now.
Test Your Database Read/Write permissions
At this point, you should have all the DealerFiles copied to your web server,
and the sample Access database should be in a read/write folder. Now you need
to ensure that your connection string and database permissions are correct so
that you're able to connect to your database, and read and write to it. This
is done using a utility available from the Admin area of the software.
- Type the website address of your software's DealerAdmin folder into
your browser's address box.
(i.e. www.yoursite.com/ezauto/dealeradmin/logon.asp)
- Enter your administration UserID and Password to log on to the Administration
area. Note : The UserId and Password are both set to Admin by default,
unless you changed it in the config file.
- Once you are logged in, click on the Verify Database Connection link.
If you get an error when you run this utility, pay close attention to what
the error says. If you get an error related to an invalid 'connection', 'data
source' or 'driver' then your Database Connection String has not been set
up correctly. If you get an error related to 'permissions' then you were able
to connect (which means your Database Connection String is probably OK), but
you don't have the right permissions on the database folder (remember that
the database folder must have read and write permissions). You will have to
successfully run this utility before you can carry on with the installation.
- Folders and their permissions - The following folders should have Read,
Write and Delete permissions: /_Private ; /DealerImages ;
Software Configuration
You should now be able to connect to the database and write to it. Click on
the Main Configuration link and review each setting carefully. At
a minimum, you must change the two settings indicated below before you can
start testing your software.
- Path to "DealerFiles" folder - This is the full URL to
your software's DealerFiles folder. The URL must start with http://
and end with DealerFiles/ . For example :http://www.mydomain.com/EZAuto/DealerFiles/
- Secure Path to "DealerFiles" folder (Optional) - The URL
must match the path above like: :http://www.mydomain.com/EZAuto/DealerFiles/
- IMPORTANT!
If you receive an error message, "operation must use an updateable query",
it's because you do not have sufficient permissions on the server to write
to the database.
That's it for setting up the demo software, we hope that you enjoy it and see
how our classifieds software can work for you.
