Pitch

There are a few specifics to the “Pitch” test:

  • When changing the range in the test's start window, you will not hear the selected note — so that you don't hear a C or B before starting the test.
  • When holding down the Option key (“alt”) while clicking one of the answer buttons, you will hear that note.
  • You can toggle the display of halftone steps. Setting “#” will e.g. display the halftone step between F and G as “F#”, setting “b” as “Gb”. This doesn't affect the sound output.

Tip:
You can also use this test as an additional way to practice intervals:

  1. Start the test.
  2. Find the first played note (e.g. by clicking the answer buttons while holding down the Option key).
  3. From there go relatively to the next note (i.e. as an ascending or descending interval).

Example:

  1. The first note gets played.
  2. You find out that it is an E and click the “E” button.
  3. The next note gets played.
  4. You recognize it as a major third (ascending) in relation to the note played before (the E).
  5. You calculate the current note to be a G#.
  6. Click the “G#” button.
  7. … (continue at step 3)

This way you can simultaneously practice the theory.
